Living, Loving, Learning

Our dear girl is 17 today.  What an incredible year it has been! She started last summer by going to stay at Berea College for a 3-day leadership conference that she had been selected to attend by her high school.  She made some new friends, had some adventures and learned some truly crazy cheers (OUTSTANDING!!!!). After a great summer on the beaches of Cape Cod with our family, she transitioned to preparing to leave for her junior year at the Gatton Academy on the campus of Western Kentucky University.  From our perspective, this school year has been an incredible opportunity for Lucy.  She has learned how to live peacefully with her (previously unknown) roommate in a tiny dorm room.  She has excelled at university level scholarly pursuits, earning her way on the President's list her first semester.  She's made a tight group of lovely, interesting new friends and nurtured the bonds with old ones.  She's been able to go on several college tours and we ...

  Our baby girl is 16 today.  This has been an extraordinary year for her.  She has dominated her academics, was a leader on her future problem solvers team, and was part of a marching band that competed in finals at the State level.  She is interesting and kind and bold in her own way.  We are so proud of the person she is becoming!  All that AND she recently received her acceptance email to the Gatton Academy !!  It is a two-year residential STEM program on the Western Kentucky University campus in Bowling Green, KY.  It's basically college with training wheels.  This was a goal she started with Grandad Lowbridge many, many moons ago and although we will miss her like crazy....I can't wait to watch my daughter SOAR!  Birthday Interview What activities/sports/clubs were you involved in this year? My sweet girl is 15 today!  She is so cool and I feel super lucky to be her Mama.   It has been a year of MAJOR SUCCESS...she received the award for highest GPA at the 8th grade promotion ceremony.   A year of HARD WORK...her marching band competed at the state level this year.   A year of GRAND ADVENTURE...we went to Scotland with her Granny, Aunties and cousin Ally, in October.    A year of NEW LOVE...we welcomed our new furry friend, Juniper, into our lives.  And a year of BIG CHANGES...Lucy has adjusted wonderfully to be being a Freshman.   We could not be more proud of our smart, sweet, kind, talented, sassy daughter.  She is an  original and she is AMAZING.   Birthday Interview What activities/sports/clubs were you involved in this year?   Heyyyyy!  It's been a long time!  First of all a warning, this post is going to be photo heavy.  Over the last year I've basically completely cut myself off from social media (fantastic decision for my mental health!) but I would love to have a space for the kids to be able to look back and access photos quickly.    This has been quite a  year for Lucy.  She has had many incredibly happy experiences and some truly tragic ones as well.  Throughout it all, Lucy has remained strong and loving and positive.  She has spent her year getting back into the groove of "normal post-Covid" life.  She is conquering 8th grade without breaking a sweat.  She has developed several deep and meaningful friendships that bring her so much joy.  Her skill on the flute is truly impressive.  She is an avid reader, enjoys creative pursuits and LOVES talking with her people on facetime.  Her analytical mind has been a perfect fit for le...
