Evansville Children's Museum
One of the days that Alexis was here we went to the Children's Museum of Evansville. It was so fantastic, I can't believe we had not been there before. It was totally perfect for Griffin's age and interests. They had this rad exhibit aimed at letting children get a sense of what it would be like to live with a disability. Griffin's favorite thing was riding the bike without use of his legs. There was also an obstacle course of sorts, to be done in a wheelchair. Griffin hopped right in and after a moment of getting the feel for it, was able to get right up the ramp and get the door open. As I was watching him, I totally got a little light-headed. For a moment I glimpsed my son as if he was confined to a wheelchair, as if it was reality. I got tears in my eyes and momentarily felt overwhelmed. It was really moving. I have whispered many thanks for his strong legs, strong body, ever since.
The next room focused on science and Griffin's favorite was excavating dino bones.Lucy loved the wall of wheels - was fascinated by the color and movement. The upstairs was even more fantastic with rooms devoted to making shadow puppets, experiencing all your senses in new ways, painting your own face (mask like), street instruments (tin trash cans and lids, pots and pans, plastic pipes), making a stop motion movie, a huge room filled with slides and balls and neon lights. It was really incredible. Lucy enjoyed the baby room filled with giant pillows, foam blocks to crawl on and lots of books and puzzles. Even the ceiling was made with a baby in mind.Alexis took this picture of her as she was watching a bubble machine work.

They both loved the drumming/percussion room. The whole family got into the act in the theatre. There was a stage complete with curtains and backdrops, costumes, stage lighting and audience seating. With the touch of a button you could choose one of 3 stories to be read aloud with timed lighting. We did the 3 billy goats gruff and Where the wild things are. Bruce won't let me post the videos I took, but trust me, they are PRICELESS!!
Alexis was such a good sport! The final part was a water room in the basement. Luckily, Griffin was pretty worn out by then although he had enough in him to splash his sister, he did not get too awfully wet (we still had many things to do that day and were an hour and a half from home or I would not care about him getting wet.)
Bruce rode in the back with the kids on the way home...I think he was feeling a little crowded.
