The end of an era....or at least a habit

Image
Today was Lucy's last official day at story hour. Ugh, so hard for Mama. I have gone practically every Wednesday since we have moved here! It was a priceless gift for Griffin and I to make friends and familiarize ourselves with the community. Through the library program we have made so many dear friends and had so much fun. It was also a huge gift to Lucy, allowing her to warm up to new adults and get to know friends her age. She was telling me how much she was excited to see her best friends today, Ava, Carlie and Myles, all we have met at story hour. In honor of our last day, Lucy got to pick our lunch destination. To no ones suprise, she wanted cheese dip at the Mexican restaurant. She just can't get enough. Well, Lucy might be phasing out, but wee Lily is phasing in and I think she will pick up the cheese eating mantle quite nicely!!

Big Changes

It has been a bittersweet weekend. Hmmm, where shall I start, sweet or bitter. Well, best get the not great stuff out of the way, shall we? Many of you know that we have been concerned about Lucy's speech, or rather lack of clear speech for a year or more now. About 12 weeks ago we began a process with the local school system, hoping to identify the problem and seek out appropriate services for her. After many meetings and 4 drop off "playgroups" for her, on Friday morning I finally got the answers we have been seeking. Unfortunately, the results of her testing were much more severe than we anticipated. The good news was that she shows no signs of Autism, Asbergers, nor any other "worst case scenarios" including mechanical issues. The bad news was that her speech delay is much more severe than we suspected. A normal child her age scores a 100 with many scoring over that. Lucy scored a 1. Not a typo...ONE. In another test she was at a 0% in language skills. They...

Tie Dye creations

Image
I have been wanting to tie dye for like FOREVER. My amazing friends Devin and Johnny hosted just such a party this weekend. It was soooo FUN! We met great people, had great food, made great music and amazing creations. They live out in the country and the kids loved running around, playing with the neighbor kids, despite the crazy heat! In addition to the shirts, I did a pair of yoga pants and a skirt for myself. The boys got underwear! And a few stained tablecloths. The one below will become a picnic/ beach blanket! The colors are so much brighter than the photos show! We used these dyes from Dharma Trading Co. They were so beautiful. I also bought some clothes from there to dye and they are really cute, nice quality (beware, they run small). A great party idea for kids and adults!!!
