Shame on You!

I don't want y'all to think that once my guy got to the White House that I stopped caring at politics. Far from it, in fact. Bruce and I are more than ever energized and interested about what is happening in this country of ours. So today, I just want to share a few words that are laying heavy on my heart. To those politicians who are going around the media circuit explaining that they cannot begin to make a decision on the President's health care bill because it is too much information, too fast, that they are just not ready to "rush into" anything. SHAME ON YOU!!!! I have been interested in politics since the early 90's and since that time health care has been a huge issue and I am sure it was for decades before that. Health care reform is an issue that has been discussed, written about, debated and a platform that many have run on. If you are not prepared to tackle this issue, than I believe you are letting your constituents and country down and you a...

Today is the day! ***

What a beautiful day, an amazing moment in time, a turning point in this country's direction. Since I first mentioned President Obama in this blog, back in January 2006, I have hoped, wished and worked for this day to come. How amazing is it that we live in a country where our voices are heard, our opinions asked for, our decisions respected!?!? How amazing are the results when Americans unite together to become BETTER together! I am ready to be led into our future by this amazing family. Today I wish for peace, joy and celebration for everyone. ***Update*** I just have to say how moving it was for me to see the President and First Lady dancing to "At Last" last night, as that was the song first song Bruce and I danced to at our wedding. Feeling the Love.

Wow, I am totally blown away with the Democratic successes this week. Really I should say OUR success...ours who have voted, who have discussed and wrote about these issues, who made phone calls, who attended rallies, who gave money. Even Rumsfeld and the President have heard the cry of the people for change, a feat that I wasn't sure could be accomplished. But tempered with my excitement I also feel a lot of trepidation. The Democrats were able to win on this wave of dissatisfaction with the current administration rather than their clear thinking, decisive plans and awesome leadership. My hope is that the leaders of our country will be fueled with a new excitement to work as a group to lead this country into the next chapter...hopefully one of peace, prosperity and a renewed commitment of caring and repairing this earth and the people on it. On a lighter note...the winds of change have also blown through our house. Bruce had to shave off is facial hair because he is interning in a...
Olbermann blasts Rummy Thank you brother. Keep on saying it!!!!

You GOTTA be kidding me!

From an AP story on the yahoo news website: "LONDON - Oil company BP PLC reported Tuesday that net profit rose 30 percent in the second quarter, as soaring world oil prices counterbalanced lower oil and gas output. BP, one of the world's largest oil companies, posted a net profit of $7.3 billion for the three months to June 30, up from $5.6 billion a year earlier." Excuse me while I puke.

Funding cuts for NPR and PBS

I have contacted most everyone who is reading this blog about this very important issue. I feel that public T.V. and public radio are well deserving causes of federal monies. Right now Congress is debating cutting major funding from these programs. A friend of mine just sent me these links and I think they are really good material. "First for info on the issue you can go to: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/ entertainment/jan-june97/arts_3-10.html for a transcript of a debate containing almost all pertinent points. Second, here is a video of Mr Rogers in 1969 defending his program and the need for federal money for it. President nixon wanted to cut a 20 million dollar endowment for funding in half due to the high cost of the Vietnam war and Mr Rogers spoke to defend the need for federal money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Sd7TcVH670 " Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street were major educational opportunities for me as a child and I want them to continue to be available to my childre...

Here Comes the Sun Originally uploaded by Shoshin Seishu . May 19, 2006, student Jean Rohe delivered this speech at her college graduation ceremomy directly before John McCain spoke. I think she has a insightful, refreshing voice and I want to share it with you. You can read more about Jean Rohe and the fall-out from this speech at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jean-rohe/why-i-spoke-up_b_21358.html "If all the world were peaceful now and forever more, Peaceful at the surface and peaceful at the core, All the joy within my heart would be so free to soar, And we're living on a living planet, circling a living star. Don't know where we're going but I know we're going far. We can change the universe by being who we are, And we're living on a living planet, circling a living star. Welcome everyone on this beautiful afternoon to the commencement ceremony for the New School class of 2006. That was an excerpt of a song I learned as a child called "Living Planet...
