Southern Trip: Part IV

Friends, old and new, made the fourth part of this trip EXTRA extra special. After we came home from the mountains, Bruce and I gussied up, kissed are boy goodbye (not that he noticed as he was enthralled with Grandpa's army men at the time) and took off for our anniversary celebration. And, what a way to celebrate, by making new friends. We met up with Kyle, Sarah and Calliope at a little restaurant in the college area of Knoxville. This family are friends/family of our family...family, family, family...there is a theme here somewhere. Anyways, although we had met briefly a few years before, it still had the feeling of a blind date. Until we sat at the table and started discussing the virtues of dark beer, then we felt like we had been friends for a long time. And their little girl...this magical little creature!! She is so precious, one only has to glimpse her and know that she has many magical powers, wears clothes made of flower petals, drinks her juice out of buttercups and surely has many fairy friends. She is so enchanting, she had the people at the table behind us entertaining her throughout dinner. After our meal we were invited to join the Campbell's at their friend's home for a little git-together. I kid you not, we were driving down the street and I glimpsed this beautiful old house that looked so lovely and I say to Bruce, "OHHH, look at that one. I wonder how it looks on the inside. Isn't it grand!!" And sure enough, that was the house we were going to visit. Inside the beautiful house was an array of interesting, artistic, intelligent, friendly people and a good time was had by all. We knew we were in the right place when a man walks into the room with a big stand up bass in one hand and a mason jar of moonshine in the other. We were treated to a living room concert by our favorite band, The Bearded, which totally ROCKED! We were sad when the night had to come to an end, but we are sure this will not be the last time we all enjoy each other's company.
The next morning we had to arise bright and early to start on another day of travel. We were off to visit with one of Bruce's oldest friends, Jim. He relocated to Atlanta quite a few years ago and every time he came back to MI we promised we would be coming down to visit him. We were so glad to finally be able to live up to those promises! We made it to our friend Jimmy's house in Atlanta by 4 pm and were lucky to miss the major traffic. This is a city that has EXPLODED with people and homes in the last decade. It is a cool place to be in that it feels very different from the other big cities on the east coast in that it is so spread out. Jimmy was happy to see us, but Juna was REALLY happy to see us. Griffin and Juna hit it off right away and were good pals the whole weekend. Jimmy took us to this awesome Mexican restaurant where we consumed pounds of beans and were serenaded by a Mariachi Band. The boys dropped Griffin and I off at home and you'll have to ask Bruce for a full recount of the evening. The next night we dropped Griffin off with some of Jimmy's friends and headed out for a night on the town. After a few wrong turns and a certain shirt incident we found the "Big Chicken". Although we knew this was what we were looking for, the picture in our mind was nothing as crazy looking as the actual kahuna. I guess this landmark is the way Altlantians(Alantazites?) give each other directions. You know, go 3 miles east of the "Big Chicken". Jimmy took us to a little blues joint that actually shook when the band was jammin', had a fantastic crowd and very strong drinks. One more short stop for a few twirls on the dance floor and we were on our way home, tired and happy. On Sunday, the guys went to a Atlanta football game (I think their team won,) and Griffin and I went shopping. We enjoyed a nice visit with a friend of mine (actually, she was my Mom's best friend from like, junior high, I think) and got to bed early. Tommorrow, we are off to Bruce's place.
