Last week I found an old video of Griffin when he was 4 and posted it to FB. It is just so cute. My sister asked why I didn't have any of Lucy singing and I thought that was a good point. So here you go...for posterity.
I have to say, Bruce and I totally knocked ourselves out to throw Lucy the best Dr. Seuss 4th birthday party that we could and I am pretty proud of the results! It was a wonderful day for her and hopefully for all her friends that came.
Our kids have LOVED the story The Lorax for a while now and were so excited to go see the movie. Bruce had a brilliant idea to make his own truffula trees. With some PVC pipe and spray paint he put these together. I made the tops out of tissue paper (tutorials widely available).
Of course, once I got started on them, I just had to make some extras to hang around the dining room. I used the extra paper to make a super colorful one for the front porch. These were so easy and cheap to make, I highly recommend them as party decorations for all different types of themes!
I printed out some of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes and gussied them up with some fancy paper cutters (Thanks, Lisa!) and hung them around the dining room for some extra decoration…
Some of you will remember what a difficult baby and toddler Lucy was, but let me tell you, she has certainly made it up to us. She was a joy as a young girl, but she is AMAZING as a tween. I am so totally biased, but I think she is brilliant. The way she thinks, remembers things, sets high expectations of herself and meets those goals, fills me with admiration for her. Her personality is rounded out with a healthy streak of silliness and sass that keeps us on our toes. I love hanging out with Lucy and am anticipating her maturing into a women with excitement. Watch out world, you can't stop her! Birthday Interview

Raising a teenager is awesome! I'm totally serious. Griffin is so self-sufficient yet willing and ready to learn all kinds of adulting skills. He is hilarious and such an interesting conversationalist when you catch him at the right time. 😉 He is interested in the world beyond this small town and eager to get his wings (or backpack and train ticket or wheels and gas money). He is empathetic and comforting with those he loves. He is a good guy and tolerates my many, many, many "teachable moment" conversations. He is a loyal friend, a loving mischievous brother and a dependable team mate. He has avoided many of the typical teenage pitfalls of worrying about what others think of him, his looks, his beliefs, his family. He knows and likes who he is and so do we. I'm so so proud of him.
