Grandma and Grandpa Huggins gave us a fantastic Christmas present this year, a family pass to the local zoo. It is less than an hour away from the house and located in the closest big city (Evansville, IN) where we have to do much of our shopping. It is so nice to be able to pop over to the zoo for a nice long walk before facing such dreaded places as the mall, Target or Home Depot. We went for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed the family time. Some of the enclosures offer terrific up-close animal experiences that I think Griffin will continue to enjoy for a long time. For me this is a perfect gift...it continues to give all year long, provides us a learning experience, excercise and family fun outdoors. Here are a few photos I managed to snap.
We received a Family Zoo Pass (+ a guest) at our adoption shower. It was, by far, the best gift we received! We have enjoyed many days at the zoo! The boys have been begging all winter to go (and we did, for the lights, but it was quite cold!). I keep telling them that when it's warmer, we will go!
Our dear boy....man, is 21 today! Since the legal drinking age where he lives in Germany, is 18, it's not quite the big deal there that it is here. Griffin is THRIVING! He has his own apartment, a great job, a close group of friends and strong relationships with his family so many miles away. We honestly can not be more proud of how he has handled the hurdles that were thrown at him this year. His resilience and dedication to making his own way in the world is so admirable. And one of his best traits? He calls his Mama (almost) every week. We love you, Griff! Can't wait to see you in a couple months! Our dear girl is 17 today. What an incredible year it has been! She started last summer by going to stay at Berea College for a 3-day leadership conference that she had been selected to attend by her high school. She made some new friends, had some adventures and learned some truly crazy cheers (OUTSTANDING!!!!). After a great summer on the beaches of Cape Cod with our family, she transitioned to preparing to leave for her junior year at the Gatton Academy on the campus of Western Kentucky University. From our perspective, this school year has been an incredible opportunity for Lucy. She has learned how to live peacefully with her (previously unknown) roommate in a tiny dorm room. She has excelled at university level scholarly pursuits, earning her way on the President's list her first semester. She's made a tight group of lovely, interesting new friends and nurtured the bonds with old ones. She's been able to go on several college tours and we ...
My sweet baby girl is 3 today. What an amazing 3 years we've had with her. She is so happy, so sweet, super silly and loving. Her smile lights up my heart, her giggle is the most beautiful music to my ears, her artwork is more stunning to my eyes than any piece hanging in the Louvre. I love how she plays in her room alone, constantly babbling away and singing silly made-up songs. I love how she loves to play outside for hours but cries at the end of the day because of her dirty hands. I love how much she loves her friends and looks forward to seeing them. I love being her favorite person, her port in the storm, her anchor. I love her passion for creating art, for animals, for books and for her beloved brother. I love her sense of humor and comedic timing. Parenting her is such a gift, so rewarding, so challenging, always keeping me on my growing edge. and without further ado....
