43 Weeks Old

We had a BIG week here! Lucy stood up in her crib for the first time (and I was lucky to have a camera close by to catch it!) This was the first time she had pulled herself up at all. It was on 1/20/09...she was doing her part for change!
Who is that gorgeous girl looking at me? This week she also started crawling in the "traditional" way. Up until now she has been just doing the army crawl. Now that she is mobile, she is gone the minute you set her down. (Yeah, I realize this picture shows the world we have yet to do something about the hideous bedroom wallpaper...what can I say? We have been busy.)
If I leave her unattended for even a minute I am never sure what I'll come back to. She is really enjoying exploring.

For old times sake: This was taken the first time Griffin ever pulled himself up.

I loved the flash back to griffin's pic. look at his face? adorable. I'm so glad we knew you guys back then and we have all those memories of griffin and jake playing together as babies.

Carrying on in the "Christina spirit"! Way to go girl!!...Better get up, there's alor to do! She's spectacular!
And honestly, it brought tears to my eyes to see Griffin. He was/is such a sweet boy. Please tell him, the next time I see him I want my bones to dance with his bones in the warm SUNSHINE...It's zero degrees here in Michigan! Keep on DANCIN' all of you! Love, Mom/Gran

Griffin is 22.

Our dude is 22 today.  He is doing so so good.  We were able to visit him over the summer and check out his adorable apartment, cool mid-evil town (complete with an ancient wall surrounding the old city), see the church there where Bach wrote some of his important works on the organ, meet his best friend and enjoy some amazing German beers.  What a treat to see Griffin thriving and making a wonderful life for himself in Germany.  While we miss him so dearly, especially at the holidays and celebrations, we are so proud of him.  Being a single dude, there is not many pictures of him taken throughout the year so enjoy some pictures of our visit with him.  And a huge thank you to the man himself, for being willing to make his Mama happy by continuing this tradition.   Birthday Interview What activities/sports/clubs were you involved in this year? Lulu is a full on adult!

Woah.....our little baby is 18.  Mind BLOWN!  She is the most amazing, composed, intelligent, lovely, loving young women.  We truly treasure who she is and the path she is on.  The last year has been INTENSE for Lucy.  A study abroad class in England over the summer, living in a residential STEM school on a university campus while still being a high school student , participating in research projects both years, maintaining a 4.0+ GPA, PLUS applying to 10+ prestigious universities could push any kid to their breaking point.  Our Lucy just kept trucking....living the Gast family motto in such a dedicated way "BOOT AND RALLY".   She took care of business and there will be big and exciting decisions coming soon.  She is my child and my teacher, mine to care for and my best friend.  As John Prine says, "How lucky can one man get?" A devastating loss...the puppies

It is with immense sorrow that I share this with you. On Tuesday night, our friend came over and we spent some time playing with the puppies. We noticed that a few of them were lethargic, had diarrhea and were throwing up. We had recently changed their food and they had spent some time playing outside so we chalked it up to them feeling a little off from eating grass and the new food. Yesterday though, there was more diarrhea and they seemed more lethargic. Bruce and Griffin loaded them up and took them to the vet "to be on the safe side." There we were given devastating news. The puppies all had perseveres, an incredibly debilitating virus that is severely contagious to dogs. We were shocked with the news but after a quick discussion on the phone, were ready to cancel all plans for the next couple of weeks and commit to nursing each one back to health. Then we had a talk with the director of the Humane Society and the Vet who made it clear to us that this virus is n...
