Ommmm.....

Hi friends. It has been a while since I've had a sewing post. Don't worry, I haven't abandoned my machine, in fact, it gets lots of use almost every day. For a while I was making the same things over and over and over...you get the point, to build up supply for Thread Head. I also have a hugely time consuming TOP SECRET project in the works, so alas, no pictures of that one yet. But this is something I am excited to share, I made my own meditation cushion. It is made out of cotton duck cloth, filled with buckwheat hulls and I even managed to put a little handle on it. You know, for the meditation practitioner on the go! I really love it, and it has really helped me to be more comfortable while meditating, there by deepening my practice.
For the last couple of years, in regards to my spirituality I have considered myself a Seeker. I have done a lot of reading, thinking and absorbing of different religious beliefs and practices. I have such a strong background in Christianity, but it is the eastern religions like Buddhism that really make sense to me on a heart level. About a year and a half ago I realized that I wanted to deepen my spiritual practice, set goals for daily activities and really really asked for a teacher. I knew I had hit a point where I needed to work with someone with experience in the type of spiritual arena in which I was most interested...especially with meditation. Then, last September, my teacher arrived. In the most unexpected way, of course. My friend Hilary spent the month of August at the amazing Kripalu Center, earning her yoga teaching certification and also being able to lead meditation sessions. When she got back, she told me she needed to keep practising her new skills and would I be willing to be her student. Private lessons twice a week plus hosting a meditation group once a week for a very teeny tiny cost all in the comfort of my own home??? YES YES YES The teacher looking for the student who had been waiting for her to be ready. Incredible how it always comes together in such magnificent ways!
So, here we are. Hilary is an amazing teacher who gets me, big time. She has taught me so much about yoga being meditation in motion, about being loving and non-judgemental of myself, about the basic yoga poses and yogic breathing, about tapping in to my energy and using it to do my best plus just a little bit more. She is generous, intelligent, kind, strong and inspiring and although we only have a short time to teach/learn together, I am so so thankful for her.

I Heart Hilary via this post :) I love love love how this serendipitous relationship has continued to unfold for both of you. And uh....oh how I dream of being in a situation where someone says to me, "Sweet cush" and I'm like, "Thanks, my sister made it for me." at which point I'd give them your Thread Heads website address where they can order one or ten of their very own.

:)

Eeeeee!

I love this post and your cushion. A virtual toast to getting on the mat/cushion and finding your teacher/your teacher finding you.
