Lucy's first camping trip

Wow, it seems like blogging has been scarce lately. Mainly this is due to my lack of a camera. I lost my battery charger somewhere this summer. While I am trying to figure out where it is or if I can replace it, we have just been using a little disposable number.
Griffin and Lucy helping set up the inside of the tent.

We had a fantastic time camping last weekend. Griffin had a birthday party for one of his pre-school pals to attend on Saturday morning so we did not hit the road until noon. We headed straight over to Rough River Dam State Park, about 1 1/2 hours away. The campground was ok. Some of the spots were really terrible - small, no shade, tightly packed together. Luckily, we were able to grab a spot on the outer loop that was a little more private and shady. After setting up camp, which took awhile because we had a new tent and Griffin and Lucy were "helping", we took a great walk in the woods.
We came upon this little cabin in the woods....felt like I was about to enter Jacob's shack (sorry, dorky Lost reference.)

AHHHH, that is when Bruce and I really started to relax. Sunshine was soooo happy, finally back to her element. We had a great night cooking on the fire (Griffin loved the s'mores) and just hanging out. We had brought Lucy's pack n' play and she was so good about playing in it so we could get some things done.
Griffin was so into learning how to set everything up, how to start a fire and of course, peeing on trees!! The kids went to sleep so quickly, the fresh air really knocked them out. Bruce and I had just gotten settled in by the fire, each with our beverage of choice, Bruce with a stoagie when the sky opened up and the downpour started. So, our evening was cut short, and that was a bit of a bummer.
Sunday was spent exploring the park, swimming in the river and hanging out together. Packing up went quickly and before we knew it, we were on our way home. This was a great time to get the kinks worked out with our new tent, make sure all our supplies were in good shape and see how the kids would do. Now we are very ready for a longer trip. I can't wait!

that sounds really great. too bad it was so short, but like you said it was great to work out the kinks. we have not had much luck with our weather while camping either. we've gone twice so far this year and both times we were quickly sent to our tents because of showers. and right when we settled into our chairs after putting the kids to bed. ughh. we know how you felt. anyway, glad you went on that adventure and it all worked well. for sure we'll need to meet up for some camping next summer. jake and casey can teach griffin all about going on bear hunts (that was their choice of playtime games our last time camping).
hope you can figure out your battery charger situation, wonder where you lost it (michigan trip, cape cod, kentucky???)

Camping can be a lot of fun and an inexpensive way to vacation (once you buy all the supplies). It is really big out here in Colorado. You guys sould come out sometime.
